Holiday Favorites

The Newburgh Symphonic Chorale will present a varied program of holiday favorites on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 3 p.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church, 105 Grand St., Newburgh. Ingrid Narken serves as conductor and Gordon Shacklett will provide piano accompaniment.
The program was selected by members of the chorale as among their favorite holiday choral music. Selections include the traditional favorites “Silver Bells” and “Carol of the Bells.” Also included will be the premiere of an arrangement of the traditional French carol “What is This Fragrance?” by local composer Peter Sipple.
Ingrid Narken is a native of the Hudson Valley. In addition to conducting the Newburgh Chorale, Ms. Narken has been teaching vocal music for the Washingtonville Central School District in Orange County since 1990. She has also performed throughout the Hudson Valley with many area choral groups and is currently a member of Kairos: A Consort of Singers.
Gordon Shacklett is well known in the Hudson Valley and has been the accompanist for the Newburgh Symphonic Chorale concerts since its inception. Mr. Shacklett is also organist and choirmaster at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Newburgh and conducts the Newburgh Concert Strings there as part of the Calvary Concert Series. He performs as cellist with the Schunnemunk String Quartet and the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, where he presents pre-concert previews.
