INGRID NARKEN, choral master
Newburgh Symphonic Chorale in Concert
American Folk Songs & Spirituals
SUNDAY, JUNE 13, 3 p.m.
St. George's Episcopal Church
105 Grand Street
Newburgh, NY

The Newburgh Symphonic Chorale presents a spring concert of American folk songs and spirituals on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 3 p.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church, 105 Grand Street, Newburgh. Ingrid Narken, a most accomplished Hudson Valley native, is Choral Master and Director, and Gordon Shacklett will provide piano accompaniment.
Ingrid Narken grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York. She received a B.S. degree in music theory and composition from SUNY New Paltz, where she studied with Gundaris Pone, and a M.S. degree in music education from Western Connecticut State University. Ms. Narken has been teaching vocal music for the Washingtonville Central School District in Orange County, New York since 1990, and her choruses have consistently earned high ratings at NYSSMA Evaluation Festivals. She was most recently children's chorus master for the Opera Company of the Highlands production of “Hansel and Gretel.” In addition to teaching, Ms. Narken has performed throughout the Hudson Valley with many area choral groups, including the Newburgh Symphonic Chorale and most recently with the Opera Company of the Highlands productions of “Cavalleria Rusticana,” “I Pagliacci,” and “Madame Butterfly” as a member of the chorus.
Gordon Shacklett needs little introduction to area music lovers and has been the accompanist for the Newburgh Symphonic Chorale concerts since its inception. Mr. Shacklett is organist and choirmaster at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Newburgh and conducts the Newburgh Concert Strings there as part of the Calvary Concert Series. He performs as cellist with the Schunnemunk String Quartet and the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, where he presents pre-concert previews.
A suggested donation of $10 will be accepted at the door. Call (845) 913-7157 for more information.
SAVE THE DATE: Be sure not to miss the Newburgh Symphonic Chorale, along with the Classic Chorale Society and Mount Saint Mary College Choir, in a moving tribute to the Dominican sisters of Hope on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Aquinas Hall, Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. The concert will be repeated on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Middletown.
