the 2024 Champagne Benefit brunch

The Powelton Club

29 Balmville Road Newburgh, NY 12550

History of the Event

In May 2014 the GNSO hosted its first Spring Brunch Benefit at the Powelton Club in Newburgh, honoring Fred and Betsy McCurdy, longtime leaders of, and contributors to, the Orchestra.

The event was an unqualified success and was followed up in April 2015 with a similar Benefit honoring the co-founders of the Orchestra, the first president George Handler and Music Director Dr. Woomyung Choe.

In years following at the Benefit the symphony honored:

  • 2016 -David Rider for his outstanding contributions to our community

  • 2017 - Alan Marks of PKF O’Connor Davies, for his contributions to the GNSO from its inception

  • 2018  - Charles Frank, Chairman of the Board of Mount Saint Mary College, and his wife Lynn, both dedicated community members

  • 2019  - Dick Polich, Founder & President, Polich Tallix Fine Arts Foundry for his community support

In 2020 we honored John & Sue Bliss, through a mailing campaign. John served as President of the GNSO for five years, and his wife Sue worked tirelessly on the Development aspects of the symphony and the prior Benefits.

As we all know, the world changed in 2021 and we were not able to gather in person to celebrate.

In 2022 we paid tribute to a few special supporters of the GNSO who have passed on but their support was instrumental to our success and growth, they were: Tony Costa, James Cotter, PhD, Noreen Davis, George Handler, Nancy Karp, Martha Mackey, Susan Najork, and John Smith

In 2023 in lieu of the Benefit, we created the “Friends of the GNSO” Program which has been a great success.

This year we return to our in-person Champagne Benefit Brunch.  We are excited to see you all again on Sunday April 28 from 12-3 at the Powelton Club.  The 2024 honoree is Ted Doering, Chairman of the Gerald A. Doering Foundation and a long-time generous supporter of the GNSO. Mr. Doering’s support has added to the long-term sustainability of the GNSO.

Keep your eyes open - we will be sending additional information and invitations about the Benefit soon.

SEE YOU THERE!

DESCRIPTION

Traditionally, Corporations have supported the Symphony by taking out advertisements in our Concert Program. This option will continue in the future, but we have also added a new range of benefits for corporate sponsors, depending on their level of contribution.

THE GNSO IS:

  • a Great Value - There is no need to drive, or take the train to NYC- you can enjoy incredible music right here in the Hudson Valley.

  • a wonderful way to introduce new and young fans to classical music

  • GOOD FOR BUSINESS - Businesses that want to attract capable and smart employees often choose a location based on local cultural opportunities. The thought is that an area with lots of cultural events is likely to attract a diverse, dynamic, intelligent, and talented group of people. A community orchestra not only provides residents a way enjoy the arts locally, but it also offers an opportunity for local musicians to perform.

  • Supporting emerging and local musicians offering the chance for non-professionals to play.
